Firefighter strike averted in western N.L.
2012-01-30
HALIFAX - Unionized firefighters in Corner Brook will hold a meeting today to discuss a tentative labour agreement reached with the city.
The two sides held meetings on Sunday and came to an agreement with the help of a conciliator.
Union spokesman Peter Daniels says a ratification vote will be held sometime between Tuesday and Thursday.
The firefighters in the western Newfoundland community had been poised to walk off the job today if no deal was reached.
It has been more than a year since the current contract for firefighters expired.
