A 19-year-old North Surrey man aims to pedal 100 kilometres with a cause — on one wheel.
Chris Heine will unicycle from Surrey to Harrison Hot Springs to raise money for BC Children’s Hospital.
“I hope to set an example for people because a lot of people including myself spend too much time gaming nowadays,” he said.
“Get active. Find an outlet for your creativity — be it whatever — and live it.”
The ride, dubbed Rolling on 100, will start at 6 a.m. Feb. 14 at the intersection of 80th Avenue and 172 Street in Surrey.
Heine will pass through Maple Ridge and Mission on Lougheed Highway. He will continue onto the Agassiz-Rosedale Highway and end at Harrison Hot Springs.
Heine’s friend Melanie will accompany him on bike, while his family follows behind in a car.
Heine was introduced to unicycling about a year ago and remembers falling 50 times each time he rode.
Now, he can carry hot coffee from Tim Hortons while travelling long distances.
The only difficulty are hills, and he practices on steep roads such as 8th Avenue by Douglas College in New Westminster.
