ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it has charged man with assault with a weapon after a woman was stabbed while walking alone early Thursday.
The woman is expected to recover from her injuries.
Police say the 22-year-old woman was walking on Torbay Road at 5:30 a.m. when she noticed a man walking toward her.
Police say the woman was stabbed as the man walked past.
On Friday, police arrested a 19-year-old suspect.
He has also been charged with aggravated assault and will appear in provincial court Saturday.
