DEMINO, Russia - Maxim Vylegzhanin led a Russian 1-2 sweep in a cross-country World Cup skiathlon race Sunday for his first victory of the season.

Vylegzhanin finished the 15-kilometre classic and 15-kilometre freestyle race in 1 hour, 20 minutes, 37.6 seconds. His teammate Illia Chernousov was 6.0 seconds behind in second place.

In a close race for third, Tobias Angerer of Germany stretched his left leg to beat Eugeniy Dementiev of Russia by a couple of centimetres at the finish line as both were timed at 8.3 seconds behind the winner.

Men's overall leader Dario Cologna of Switzerland is skipping the event.

The women's 15-kilometre skiathlon was scheduled to wrap up the World Cup leg in Russia.
